Sciatica (Hip, Buttock, and Leg Pain, Tingling, or Numbness)
What is sciatica? Rather than the medical definition, let’s define what most people think of as
sciatica. It is commonly used to describe any butt or leg pain. More technically, the sciatic nerve is
a large bundle of nerves that exits the lower back into the butt and legs. It can become
compressed, irritated, or inflamed from many causes, including intestinal infections or inflammation,
disc herniations or bulges, tight muscles, imbalanced muscles, or any mechanical problems of the
low back, sacroiliac joints, hips, and even the knees and ankles.
The trick to resolving sciatic pain is understanding the many causes and being able to diagnose the
real reason for the problem, rather than trying this and that in the hopes that it may work.
An understanding of five element Chinese medicine helps to accurately diagnose the cause of the
problem. For instance, since the problem appears to be physical, most practitioners fail to consider
the connections to all the internal organs that affect the nervous system and inflammation in this
area, including the liver, kidney, and large intestine.
If the problem is purely a physical problem, a qualified chiropractor should easily be able to resolve
the problem…but the fact is that many cases do not resolve with purely physical methods.
One of the chapters in my book, “When Did Natural Become The Alternative,” discusses the case of
a man who had sciatica off and on most of his life. When he first consulted with me, he had just
completed a full year of care under a local chiropractor, and just weeks after completing his care,
his pain was back to its original intensity. Ouch on the back, and ouch on the pocketbook.
The five element system considers all systems, and, in fact, this patient also complained of severe
intestinal distress that would come and go, and clearly increased the sciatic pain. Nobody had
considered this connection in over 40 years. We tested the GI tract for infections, and he had
three different bacterial and yeast infections!
Instead of working on his problem physically, we prescribed a specific natural protocol for all these
infections, plus a natural anti-inflammatory and healing protocol for the intestinal lining. To his
surprise, his pain, after 40 years, began to disappear.
If you are tired of “trying” one treatment after the other, and instead digging deeper to uncover the
cause of your sciatic pain, then creating a precise plan to address that cause, begin by signing up

and decide, fully knowing what we have to offer…if it is for you.
